Guidance on Digital Transformation

McKinsey & Company recently bundled much of its expertise on digital and AI transformation into a book called ‘Rewired’ – a ‘must-read’ for anyone senior in a company that needs to make the digital transformation, but others can also benefit from reading it too.

Although aimed at C-suite readers, it’s more than a high-level overview devoid of detail. One reviewer said: “Rewired goes past the ‘what’ to delve into the ‘how’” – but for management. It contains clear, plainly stated information, helpful diagrams, flow charts and tables.

‘Rewired’ doesn’t reach the technical depth at which companies in our industry operate, so there’s not much to learn technically. However, we still have to communicate with C-suite about managing their digital and AI transformations, so this book provides practical advice and concrete examples along with real-life case studies for doing so. It’s an insight into how the C-suite thinks, and how we can ‘get on the same page’ as them.

‘Rewired’ is described as a “reference manual for the digital and AI transition; a road map” that teaches ICT companies how to put available digital technologies into perspective for customers. It can also help us translate our technical knowledge and experience into corporate strategy. This is particularly so for the ICT infrastructure underpinning it as what’s considered ‘revolutionary’ technology moves to ubiquity.

One CEO quoted in the book said: “We can find digital everywhere in our company but the bottom line”. ICT businesses need to learn to guide companies to an improved bottom-line. CEOs need to be taught how to see competitive advantage and the bottom-line clearly every time they see digital technologies.
