PROGRAM:

4.20pm – 4.30pm

Speaker: Paul Stathis, CEO, BICSI South Pacific

Topic: Welcome & BICSI Update

4.30pm – 5.00pm

Speaker: Adam Cooper, Cluster Director, Headstart, Department of Education

Topic: Victorian Govt. Headstart Program: How BICSI Members Can Get Involved in Developing the Next Generation of ICT Professionals

Where will the next generation of ICT professionals come from – university or TAFE grads? Often it’s too late by then because many young people will have already chosen other careers because they had no idea the ICT Infrastructure industry existed. We have to start much earlier – when kids are in high school, where they’re just starting to think about careers. This presentation will explore the Vic Dept of Education’s ‘Headstart’ program which seeks to connect high-school students with industry leaders and employers to put students on the path to ICT careers. Learn about this program and how you can be involved in developing the next generation of ICT professionals.

5.00pm – 5.45pm

Speaker: Krishna Gopal RCDD, Associate, Aurecon

Topic: Impact of ICT on Greenhouse Emissions – the Jevon’s Paradox

The move to reduce greenhouse gas emissions looks to digital technologies to facilitate many of the aspirations towards a ‘net-zero’ world. However, there is a danger that digital technology itself could impede reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, even generating more emissions than it saves. This presentation will explore this very real ‘paradox’ and present recommendations for all ICT professionals to adopt in.

5.45pm – 6.30pm

Speaker: Gary Bernstein RCDD DCDC, Global Datacentre Solution Specialist, Siemon

Topic: Public Cloud vs On-Premises – Comparing Datacentre Strategy and Cost on the Road to 100G & 400G bps

Cloud repatriation is an emerging trend in the datacentre world, where workloads and data are reverse-migrated from the public cloud to a private cloud within an on-premise datacentre. What is the impact of this trend on the natural migration of datacentres to 100G & 400Gbps functionality? Gary will discuss the pros & cons of this trend and address its impact on network migration and the ICT infrastructure needed for its successful deployment.

BICSI South Pacific is privileged to showcase such important industry developments and leading-edge technologies and their deployment in real-world applications. This is a seminar not to be missed.

This seminar is sponsored by Siemon and SKS Technologies.
