New Zealand 2017 Conference, and not enough ham…

The Conferences in New Zealand are still a relatively a new initiative for BICSI South Pacific. 2017 was only our third year, however it was a record breaking conference and exhibition with over 400 visitors passing through those double doors over the day, and a sold out exhibition space…

Now, we all know how boring cabling is, (at least that’s what the “uneducated” think) but this year our conference program was anything but boring. In fact, we ran out of chairs as there were over 80 people listening to the excellent presentations. The speakers covered topics on data centre cable management, the proliferation of IoT in Smart Buildings, smart cities and structured cabling in large data centres.

As we wandered around the Conference this year, the exhibitors were very enthusiastic. On average, visitors stayed at the event for 3.5 hours, engaging in conversations and more importantly business was being done.

We did have one disaster. We ran out of food! Seriously. At the end of the show, we asked for feedback on the event, and the common comment was ‘not enough ham.’ Sorry. We will take this on board, and cater for more people next year. We had double the amount of people at the venue than expected  – so great for the exhibitors, a good problem to have! After feedback from the event last year, we decided to set up a Business Lounge. This worked tremendously well , with a coffee barista serving beverages for the whole day, free Wi-Fi, and break out areas, all sponsored by Schneider Electric. that meant visitors could spend more time at the conference without having ot rush back to their offices to take care of business. They were able to take calls and respond to emails in the comfort of the Business Lounge, with a real coffee, and WiFi.

BICSI South Pacific always supports local charities as part of its major events. So this year we supported the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust. We raised $2160 over the course of the day, so thank you so much for the support.

Overall this was the most successful New Zealand conference to date. It was highly valuable, a great learning experience for the attendees and exhibitors, proving to be the centerpiece in the industry for networking and business. Put a note in your calendar for  May 2018 when we return to Ellerslie Event Centre in Auckland for next years conference. 14 of the exhibitors have already booked in for next year year’s conference to retain their prime spots!
