Cabling is Boring…

…not today

In your spare time, I guess you love to think about Male Modular Plugs UTP RJ12 Connectors, sometimes dreaming about how incredible it is that twisted pairs were invented. They bring such colour and purpose to life. When you walk into the office and see the royal blue CAT6A patch leads from inside the 42RU server rack, it puts such a smile on your face. You think to yourself, “This is why I get up in the morning, for cables.”

Oh wait. No you don’t. Cables are boring. Who cares?!

What you do care about, is being without internet for 3 months at your new property. What you do care about, is the fact you can no longer binge on Netflix, as the ISP has failed to provide a technician to fix the ‘cabling’. What you do care about is trying to put the ‘fire’ out as your ropable client (who is mid-meltdown), just informed you his data centre has had 2 hours of downtime.

Cabling is perceived to be boring, but that’s simply because the cables are out of sight, out of mind. However when they fail, the Telecommunication Consultants get excited, but for all the wrong reasons. And as consumers or clients, we become very grumpy and it costs $’s.

The fact is, to exist and run our lives day to day, we need excellent infrastructure. To achieve this we need best practice in: design, integration and installation of pathways, spaces, fibre- and copper-based distribution systems, & wireless-based systems. We need ongoing education and knowledge assessment for individuals and companies in the ICT infrastructure industry for designers, installers and technicians. This can be through courses, conferences, publications and professional registration programs, opportunities for continual improvement and enhanced professional stature.
