BICSI Seeking Representatives for Communications Alliance Working Committees

In BICSI Bytes, Newsby info@bicsi.com.au

BICSI South Pacific is a member of Communications Alliance and has a number of its members participating on several Communications Alliance Standards committees.

BICSI has just been invited to join three standards working committees, and as such is calling for expressions of interest amongst BICSI members to represent BICSI on these committees (one representative per committee).

The committees are:

  • WC87: Advanced Mobile Location Inter Carrier Interface Working Committee

This Committee is tasked to create a new G557.6:2019 Location Information for Emergency Calls – Part 6: Advanced Mobile Location Guideline to support the transfer of Advanced Mobile Location (AML) information at the point of interconnection for emergency calls.

The G557:2014 Location Information for Emergency Calls Industry Guideline defines several forms of location information supplied by the telecommunications industry to emergency service organisations in association with calls to emergency numbers.

The proposed new Part 6 of G557:2014 is to align with international specifications for Advanced Mobile Location.

  • WC88: Advanced Mobile Location for Mobile Devices Working Committee

This Committee is to revise or amend the AS/CA S042.1:2018 Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 1: General Standard to support the transfer of Advanced Mobile Location (AML) information from a mobile device to a mobile network for emergency calls.

The AS/CA S042.1:2018 Requirements for connection to an air interface of a Telecommunications Network – Part 1: General Standard specifies the general requirements for Customer Equipment (CE) that is designed or intended for use in connection with a PMTS and is an addressable device; or a Satellite Service and is an addressable device; or both. This Standard does not apply to CE which is not an addressable device such as GPS terminal and satellite navigation system.

The proposed revised or amended AS/CA S042.1:2018 is to align with international specifications for Advanced Mobile Location.

  • WC89: Emergency Calling Interface Revision Working Committee

This Committee is to revise or amend, as required, the:

• G549:2000 Interconnection Implementation Plan; and
• G500:2000 Signalling System No. 7 – Interconnection ISUP Specification.

To support the transfer of international CLI at the point of interconnection for emergency calls.

The G500:2000 Signalling System No. 7 – Interconnection ISUP Specification defines the interconnection services and signalling protocol to be available for interconnecting domestic Australian PSTN networks.

The G549:2000 Interconnection Implementation Plan specifies the recommended technique for passing information between networks for end to end operation but is not included in the signalling elements of ACIF G500:200.

Expressions of Interest for membership of the above Committees will be assessed on the basis of achieving appropriate and balanced representation of interested, affected sectors. Membership of Communications Alliance Working Committees is on a voluntary basis. It is expected that Working Committee members both attend regular meetings and contribute time outside the meetings.

The terms of reference for WC87, WC88 and WC89 are in the respective information packs and these plus nomination forms are available here.

BICSI must submit its candidates for each of these committees to Communications Alliance by 6 February 2019, so any requests from BICSI members wishing to participate on BICSI’s behalf must be made in writing to paul.stathis@bicsi.com.au by midnight 25 January 2019.
